Vegan Hair Therapy to the Rescue!

CREO has a line of all-natural, vegan, paraben-free, plant-derived hair and skin care products that I just recently discovered, and I’m happy to say that they live up to my high expectations. At this point, vegan hair care, especially shampoos, need to seriously kick ass for me to post on VBR.

I think most people have become so used to the feeling of conventional shampoos stripping their hair until it’s literally squeaky clean… Well, this shampoo is refreshingly gentle yet totally effective.

CREO Therapeutic Hair Masque: Boy oh boy, am I a HUGE fan of hair masques. I know some people are blessed with beautifully thick, healthy, shiny hair but I am not one of these peeps. My hair needs love and a lot of it, especially in the form of deep conditioning masques. This CREO masque seals down the outer layers of the hair shafts which make hair soft and shiny. This product is also packed with lots of anti-oxidants and UVA/UVB protection (again, great for retaining hair color). This concentrated, hearty conditioner will help ease the effects of constant blow dying and processing. I recommend rockin’ this hair mask at least once a week.

Nano Pro-tec Weightless Shine Spray: This nourishing Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid-rich formula tames frizzies and adds the perfect amount of shine to hair—makes it look sleek and healthy. And it truly is weightless. I have been using this spray religiously after styling my freshly washed hair, and I LOVE it!

Neuma: Quenching Your Thirsty Hair

Sometime I feel like a broken record when I go on and on about how nasty and dry my hair is. My hair is in a constant state of crustitude and dude, it bums me out. It’s always a treat when I discover serious, no-bullshit, vegan brands of shampoo that actually make my hair feel deliciously soft and manageable (which is a tall order).

I was recently sent some samples of Neuma, a sulfate-free, sustainable, vegan line of haircare and I was excited to finally try some fancy, salon-quality shampoo and conditioner. I fell in love with their “moisture” hair care line (for dry and damaged hair – like mine)! It was concentrated, thick and nourishing and it smelled like lemon frosted cupcakes. My only complaint (which isn’t really legit) was that their samples were of sample size. Mama wanted more!

Neuma is offered in spas and fine salons around the country. (I know, I’m bummed we can’t buy these at Target, too). For a list of these locations, check their website for updates. Their website isn’t fully complete (although it’s very pretty and relaxing – with chirping birdies, even), so some of their menu selections are “coming soon.” I will keep you all posted if I hear any news.

Bottom line: Neuma is the shit! If you get the opportunity to try this hair care line (which is available in Moisture, Volume, Styling, Renew and Repair), you’ll be stoked – take my word on this.

Pureology: High performance vegan hair care

Another great feature is the concentration factor; the product will last twice as long as normal hair shampoos and conditioners. It might be slightly more expensive than other brands but it will last longer and your hair will thank you.

I have people who constantly come up to me asking for my opinion on vegan hair care products. It seems like finding the perfect vegan shampoo and conditioner can be quite an elusive feat. I definitely have found some gems and today I’d like to introduce you all to Head Organics. I like to use straight up conditioner after using any brand of “shampoo & conditioner” because that’s the way I roll (if your hair was dry and crusty like mine, you’d understand). My hair can use all the nourishing love it can get. If you have strong and healthy, unprocessed hair (btw, I’m soooo jealous!), you could most likely ditch conditioner all together and save some valuable time in the shower.

Leave in Conditioning Spray ($13.50): This weightless detangler, which is infused with hydrolyzed soy protein and plant-based glycerin, helps keep fly aways at bay. And again, if you’re like me and your hair is overprocessed and slightly crispy, this is exactly what your hair is thirsting for.

Shine/Anti-Frizz Serum ($14.50): This light and non-greasy serum contains a gentle formula of green and white tea leaf, pomegranate fruit, ginger root and aloe vera. This serum gets the job done and name of this product speaks for itself. Hello shine, bye-bye frizzies. All you need to do is dab a little bit of serum in your palm and then apply from ends to roots. Then prepare yourself to see your dry hair transform into something flaunt worthy.

This first time I walked into a Lush Store, I thought I died and went to heaven. That was 12 years ago while on vacation in Banff, Canada. Although not yet a vegan, I was still smart enough to recognize something good when I found it.

Not only are their shampoos, soaps and fizzy bath bombs delectably smelly but they are quite the eye candy. When the sex bomb dissolves you’ll have a bath tub full of rice paper rose petals. Que romantico!

Another bath bomb that will rock your world is their Avobath Bomb ($5.65). That’s avo as is avocado. Two wonderful reasons why I love it: it’s moisturizing and it smells refreshing… and it’s green (for us green goddesses who love our planet).
