I love seaweed. Like, seriously, I eat it every day (it’s a super food packed full of vitamins and minerals… and it’s T-A-S-T-Y!) Seaweed’s also amazing on the non-foodie front. It’s rich in beta-carotene, Vitamin A, minerals and amino acids, and it helps maintain collagen (a property necessary for smooth functioning of connective tissues a.k.a. wrinkle reducer) making skin super soft.

I’ve been using Gabriel Cosmetics for years but I just recently tried their organic skin care line and it’s pretty awesome. These are my faves…

White Seaweed Healing Hand & Body Lotion, $25.50: This is a light and easily absorbed lotion – so feel free to get slather happy; it definitely won’t make you feel sticky or oily. The white seaweed and active plant oils help replenish your skin with moisture and improve the texture and elasticity. So, if you suffer from dry skin, you need to be rockin’ some seaweed lotion! Just so you know, it’s safe for all skin types and it’s pH balanced. It has a really light floral scent which quikly fades after application.

Seaweed Revitalizing Bath & Shower Gel, $22.50: I’ve become the biggest fan of shower gels. They’re more convenient and accessable than bars of soap and they double up as shampoo when you’re out. Its key ingredients, aside from seaweed, are Vitamin C and aloe vera – these are important skin revitaliziers. This lil’ seaweed lotion and body wash combo lives in my bathroom and awaits me tonight – I’m excited. Ha! When do I not get excited about new beauty routines? My only complaint: It’s definitely on the pricey side for a body wash.

Eat, wear and bathe in seaweed! Peace out!

Okay, let’s talk shampoo. Conventional haircare products entail a vicious cycle which use chemicals to strip hair “clean” and then use additional chemicals to coat hair and make it feel soft. It’s kind of silly, really (and dangerous). I can’t stress how important it is to use natural skin and hair care products. Every year more and more chemically laden beauty products are put on the market. Luckily companies like Obligé by Nature are here to rescue us from our unhealthy beauty regimens. Obligé by Nature is 75-95% certified organic, 100% natural (no chemicals, synthetics, parabens, sulfites, etc), vegan, and they use sustainable, Fair Trade ingredients.

So, now that your conventional, toxic shampoo has made it’s way to the trash, be happy to know that your hair is going to come back to life (after detoxing via healthier, more nourishing hair washing routines). A good place to start is with Obligé’s Stimulant Shampoo ($14.95) with spearmint, peppermint and wintergreen. It’s smells so fresh and rejuvenating and it has a slight tingle factor (if you’re into that, which I undoubtedly am). It’s a mint lover’s dream. This shampoo is intentionally a low lather formula and works best on normal hair. If you desire a heartier lather, shampoo twice. Their shampoo varieties include: Pur (unscented, for all hair types), Détente (calming, for normal, dry & damaged hair), Exotique (sensual, for normal and fine, delicate hair), Réveil (awakening, for normal to oily hair) and Stimulant (energizing, for normal hair).

If your hair is dry, frizzy, fried and needs some serious love, I recommend their Nourishing Conditioner ($18.95) which is packed with mineral rich herbs and emollient oils. This rich conditioner smells so calming and beautiful. It contains essential oils of Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Palmarosa, Petitgrain and Lemongrass. All of these hair products are safe on color treated hair – hallelujah! (’cause my natural hair color hasn’t surfaced since high school). These conditioners are available in Pur, Nourishing and Volumizing formulas.

Moving on to body care… I’ve always been a fan of minty body washes. In fact, Dr. Bronners Peppermint Soap is one of my all time favorite vegan skin care products on the market. I have to say though, Obligé by Nature kicks some major ass in the minty, tingly body wash department. I’ve been rockin’ their Stimulant Body Wash and it’s out of this world. It smells amazing and makes my skin feel happy. It’s pH balanced and contains Rose Hip Seed Oil which repairs damaged skin and helps leave it super smooth. Love it, Love it! I hope I get around to trying all of Obligé’ by Nature’s products. ( I will of course keep y’all posted)
