Dr. Brite Vegan and Organic Oral Care Review

Dr Brite

I’ve been using all-natural, vegan toothpaste now for years. The thought of putting chemical laden goop, filled with artificial dyes and sweeteners in mah mouth, literally makes my soul cringe. I am always on the lookout for new (or new-to-me) clean, vegan oral care products, and I was stoked to recently receive Dr. Brite‘s line of organic, non-toxic, and gluten-free oral care goodies.

I’m always a bit skeptical trying out all-natural toothpaste because so many of them are hella messy (black activated charcoal, I love ya, but damn, you stain all my light colored clothes – and sink!) or they’re super slick/greasy because they’re heavily coconut oil based.

I gotta say, Dr. Brite is kind of killin’ it in the #winning department! Let’s take a closer look:

Vitamin-C Infused Whitening Toothpaste, $9 – Dr. Brite’s whitening toothpaste is fluoride-free (yassss!!!) and uses all-natural ingredients to fight off gingival disease-causing bacteria without chemicals that dry your mouth (SLS), cause cavities (Sorbitol), or increase the possibility of getting cancer (Titanium Dioxide). It’s infused with Vitamin-C to help improve gum health and reduce gum inflammation, too. It also contains organic coconut oil, green tea extract, activated bamboo white charcoal (i.e. the non-staining kind, holla!), menthol and spearmint extract. It’s sweetened with stevia, and it actually tastes really good. Like, really, really good! It has a soft, sweet mint flavor, which kind of reminds me of after dinner mints (← pssst, can someone puh-lease make a vegan version of these!?!). Anyhoo, the texture is spot on, it foams (sans SLS), and I think it’s reasonably priced. Heads up: The paste does tend to separate and look a little liquidy – just be sure to give it a good shake in the tube before slathering it on your toothbrush.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Organic Glycerin*, Hydrated Silica (Mineral), Calcium Carbonate (Mineral), Cellulose Gum, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Organic Green Tea Extract*, Kaolin Clay (Mineral), Organic Xylitol*, Organic Coconut Oil*, Activated White Charcoal (Binchotan), Coco Glucoside (Coconut Derived), Organic Mentha Spicata (Spearmint) Flavor Extract*, Menthol, Organic Stevia* (*Certified Organic Ingredients)

Vitamin-C Infused Mouth Rinse, $9 – Yum, this tastes just like their toothpaste (sweet and minty), and it’s also made with organic coconut oil, activated white charcoal, and natural Vitamin-C to reduce inflammation. I love this mouthwash SO much! It’s super refreshing and it doesn’t have a harsh, burning Linsterine-y vibe. It’s extremely pleasant!

Heads up: There are some floaty bits chillin’ out at the bottom of the bottle. This is not unusual for all-natural products (kombucha is the motha example). 😉 Just give the bottle a good shake. It doesn’t fully incorporate the separated ingredients, but you’re not swallowing this mouthwash anyway. It’s all gravy.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Organic Aloe Vera Juice*, Organic Glycerin*, Organic Xylitol, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Organic Coconut Oil*, Activated White Charcoal (Binchotan), Organic Mentha Spicata Essential Oil (Spearmint)*, Organic Stevia* (*Certified Organic Ingredients)

Antioxidant Infused Teeth Whitening Pen, $20 – This is a clinical strength teeth whitening pen that boasts getting your teeth 2 shades whiter in as little as 2 days! I see ears perkin’ up! It’s made with food grade hydrogen peroxide (rockstar ingredient) and other natural ingredients (see below) that are organic and responsibly sourced. Three things especially worth noting: 1) The flavor of this one is Green Apple, and it really does taste like green apple – yummers! 2) The applicator is BOMB! I can’t stand the conventional ones that have the bristle-y brush at the end – they’re impossible to clean and they always break on me. This one has an easy-to-clean, angled silicone brush. 3) You can leave this on your teeth without having to rinse the gel off (just avoid eating or drinking anything for 30 minutes) – now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! SO many teeth whitening systems are complicated af… tooth trays, handheld lights, cotton swabs, timers, etc. No, thank you.

I’ve been whitening my teeth for the past few months with various products so I can’t fully attest to the 2-day whitening claim (my pearlies are pretty pearly right now), but I’ll come back to that as soon as I get a chance to exclusively use this product after my teeth get yellow again, lol – stay tuned!

Ingredients: Purified Water, Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, Organic Glycerin*, Organic Xylitol*, Cellulose Gum, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Organic Coconut Oil*, Organic Green Apple Extract*, Menthol (*Certified Organic Ingredients)

I’m pretty blown away by Dr. Brite’s whitening oral care. I love that they incorporate coconut oil and activated white charcoal into their products which naturally whiten teeth. These products taste yummy, they’re effective, and I adore that this company is run by two mommies, and that everything is made in the USA.

One of the ingredietns listed is organic glycerin. Not sure how can you make organic glycerin if this is a chemical component made in the laboratory? As well glycerin is a sugar alcohol, an artificial sweetener used in food processing. So there is a big question mark on the statement if this toothpaste is free from artificial sugar.

Hi Sunny. Do you think the whitening pen will make teeth super sensitive? I already have sensitive teeth and I can’t even stand to think of them being more sensitive. I know the more commercialized ones are known to increase sensitivity a lot.
