e.l.f. Cosmetics Now Officially 100% Vegan!

e.l.f. Cosmetics vegan and crueltyfree makeup brushes

For years people have been asking me if e.l.f. Cosmetics, one of the most affordable and easily accessible, was indeed all-vegan, to which I’d always have to reply “all of their makeup is vegan but not all of their brushes are” (and it always pained me just a little to know that e.l.f. was SO close to makin’ it all the way)… that is, until now! They are officially 100% vegan – makeup and brushes (which are now being made with synthetic fibers)! This recent decision was based on a strong collaboration between e.l.f. Cosmetics and PETA (← gettin’ sh*t done).

Btw, synthetic makeup brushes are the shizz for a couple reasons. Lemme break it down:

  1. They aren’t made out of animal butt hair (eg. squirrel, mink, sable, goat, etc.) – ew and ouch!
  2. They don’t harbor bacteria like animal brushes do.
  3. They’re often more affordable than animal hair brushes (amen!).

I don’t know about y’all, but i’mma buy ALL the e.l.f. makeup brush kits, like nao!

e.l.f. cosmetics can be found online and at drugstores and popular chains like K-Mart and Target.

Sorry this post wasn’t super specific so I am wondering did you just get a press release saying that the white handled brushes are all now synthetic? I know the black on black were already synthetic just not all the white ones cause for some dumb reason they decided to use horse hair for quite a few (info from my previous emails with e.l.f). Did they also say when the animal hair ones would be faded out of sets and sent to stores? Thanks so much!

Yes, the white handled brushes will no longer be made with animal hair. 🙂 I’ll try to find out when exactly they’ll be phased out, but they are definitely no longer in production.

Thanks for sharing this! It’s great to find out that they are 100% vegan. I love e.l.f and NEED some new fluffy, nice brushes and am so excited to look into e.l.f brushes! Are you writing a review on them once you get them? I have been debating over buying a BH Cosmetics set of brushes and now I’m thinking on looking more towards e.l.f, is there one you’d recommend over the other? (:
