Earthwise Beauty

In general, I always get amped to try out new vegan beauty products, but when new items comes rollin’ out from vegan brands I’ve been crushin’ on for years, my giddiness goes through the roof.

Earthwise Beauty (bae-worthy beauty brand, I’m obsessed!) recently sent me their newly launched Catharsis Face Mask, along with their Magical Babassu facial oil, and Fern & Moss. I immediately halted my current beauty regimen and switched over to these bad boys STAT.

If you’re new to Earthwise Beauty, all products are vegan, cruelty-free, handcrafted in small batches, and are made with unrefined, unprocessed fair-trade ingredients (i.e. unrefined botanical oils and butters, traditionally prepared herbs, and therapeutic-grade essential oils and absolutes). They might seem a bit pricy at first glance, but the ingredients and formulas and highly effective and worth every single penny (IMHO).

OK, let’s take a closer look at these beauties!

Earhwise Beauty Catharsis

Catharsis Face Cleanser and Mask, $50 (0.95 oz) – This product just launched this month, and it’s packed with some of my favorite vitamin-rich greens: aloe leaves, neem, spirulina, and chlorella. It’s designed to heal, hydrate, and firm, and you can use it as a cleanser or a mask. I’ve only used this as a face mask using water (pic below), and I could literally feel a difference in my skin right away – it felt über clean, fresh, and just happier. 🙂 There’s no scrubby particles or clay (which can dry out skin) – just lots o’ powerful greens… it’s like a green smoothie for your face! It’s so rad. I also really appreciate its earthy, green scent, too. Everything about this mask just feels so right.

Catharsis Face Mask

Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis leaf powder*, neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf powder* (India), organic Spirulina platensis powder, organic broken-cell Chlorella vulgaris powder, orange (Citrus sinensis) peel powder*.

*Certified organic.

Earthwise Beauty Ferns and Moss

Ferns and Moss Face Serum, $26 (0.25 fl. oz.) – First off, love the name… you don’t typically think of slathering ferny mossy ish all over your mug, but this stuff is pure magic, especially for mega dry and/or mature skin (that’s essentially me). If you have skin that needs serious nourishing, repair, restructuring, moisture retention, healing, cell regeneration, and detoxing, this product might be your everything. And according to Earthwise beauty, “a need for detoxing is evident as recurring dark spots or overall unhealthily dark or dull facial appearance, or as water retention and puffy appearance” – seriously, I read this and freaked out. Maybe I’m just paranoid and hyper-sensitive, but based on that description, my skin def needs detoxing! 🙁 I’ve been using this nightly, along with the Magical Babassu Oil, and my skin is baby soft and smooth. I’m in my 30s, y’all, and there’s no doubt in my mind that this beauty regimen is the key to fighting those dreaded signs of aging.

Peep these interesting, antioxidant-rich ingredients including a couple of relatively unknown beauty oils.

Ingredients: Organic unrefined cold-press Carapa guianensis (andiroba) oil, organic unrefined cold-press Moringa oleifera oil, organic unrefined cold-press Schinziophyton rautanenii (manquetti mongongo) oil, organic unrefined unfiltered cold-press Calophyllum inophyllum* (tamanu) oil, wildcrafted Hippophae rhamnoides (seabuckthorn berry) CO2 Total extract, Calendula officinalis CO2 Total extract*, wildcrafted Copaifera officinalis (copaiba balsam) essential oil, Ferula galbaniflua (galbanum) essential oil*, unrefined cold-press Simmondsia chinensis (golden jojoba) oil*, wildcrafted Evernia prunastri (oakmoss) absolute.

*Certified organic.

Magical Babassu Oil

Magical Babassu Facial Oil, $82 (1.2 fl. oz) – I have to be honest, I’ve been using all of these products in conjunction with each other, so it’s a bit hard to suss out which products are specifically doing what to my skin. I do know that my skin is in heaven and is feeling more nourished and hydrated that it has been in quite some time. This “magical” babassu oil (totally new to me) is really unique. It’s creamy and light-feeling and has a somewhat powdery feel. It has powerful redness- and dryness-reducing properties, and it’s noncomedogenic (won’t clog pores), so no need to be shy with this stuff. After reading up on this oil blend and experiencing it first-hand, I’m sold on it’s magical-ness.

Some highlights:

  • Babassu oil is also often described as slightly cooling, and this quality lends this ingredient perfect for a range of inflammatory skin conditions, from eczema to rosacea and psoriasis. It minimizes pores and decreases puffiness.
  • Brazil nut oil has a high linoleic acid content and is highly beneficial for mature, neglected, and dry skin. It is also rich in minerals (especially selenium) and vitamins E, A, B, and C.
  • Sacha inchi from Chile is loaded with Omega 3s. It is a thinner oil that is very hydrating and wrinkle reducing. Sacha inchi provides the high moisture factor complementing the emollient components of Magical Babassu and the skin tissue healing ones.
  • Pracaxi pod oil is a sacred healing oil known in the Amazon rainforest as “jungle suture” because it regenerates and repairs skin tissue powerfully and quickly (crazy, right!?). It can also fight acne and help improve the appearance of scars.

Ingredients: Organic cold press unrefined Attalea speciosa (babassu) seed oil (Brazil), organic cold press unrefined Bertholletia excels (Brazil) nut oil, wildcrafted cold press unrefined Butyrospermum parkii (shea) fruit butter† (West Africa), organic cold press unrefined Plukenetia volubilis (sacha inchi) seed oil (Chile), organic cold press unrefined Pentaclethra macroloba (pracaxi) pod oil (Brazil), tocopherol (non-GMO vit. E, from sunflowers), organic virgin cold press unrefined Simmondsia chinensis (golden jojoba) seed oil†, wildcrafted Nelumbo nucifera pink lotus flower absolute (India), wildcrafted Acacia decurrens var. dealbata (mimosa) flower absolute (France), Vetiveria zizanioides vetiver roots absolute (Haiti)†, ethically farmed Nicotiana tabacum tobacco leaf absolute (nicotine free, hexane free, Belgium).

Overall impression: Again, my skin feels incredible after using these products for a little over a week now, and I can’t stop touching my face (even though that’s hella bad and you’re not supposed to do that). If you’re looking for some serious moisture infusion including antioxidants up the yin-yang, these products are pretty much in a league of their own. They’re highly concentrated, undiluted, seriously effective and prove that Mother Nature knows what’s up. Ava, Earthwise Beauty HBIC/magician, is a miracle worker, and she’s so in tune with nature’s healing properties, that I wouldn’t be surprised if she discovered the cure for cancer. 😉 She amazing and her skincare line is truly something else. ♥
