Happy Vegan & Cruelty-Free Manicure Monday!

As someone who has recently become intrigued by all things chakra (thanks to mindful, mystic, and yoga subscription boxes), I was especially giddy to discover Raga Varnish, a new indie nail polish brand inspired by Yoga, Ayurveda, and spirituality. Their nail polish colors are designed to help “energize your Chakras, balance your Doshas, unite you to the divine, and bring a little extra color into your already beautiful life.” I’m crushing bigtime on this line of lacquers as the formula is perfect and they apply like a dream, the colors are vibrant and pure, and as far as I know, they’re the only chakra polishes on the market.

For this week’s mani, I used Raga Varnish’s Ganesha (gray) as a base and dottied up my nails to represent ALL the chakras (peep descriptions below for a lil’ 411 on chakra basics). From bottom to top:

The first Chakra, Muladhara, is located from the soles of your feet to your tailbone and is represented by the color Red. This chakra relates to our most basic physical and emotional needs such as home stability, work, and our health. Red is the color of life force, passion, stability, security, and grounding.

The second Chakra, Svadhisthana, is located in and around our hips and pelvis, and is represented by the color Orange. This chakra relates to our emotional, sexual, and creative centers. Orange is the color of balance, strength, curiosity, creativity, and sexuality.

The third Chakra, Manipura, is located is our navel center and represented by the color Yellow. This chakra relates to our self-esteem, confidence, and determination. Yellow is the color of knowledge, new beginnings, concentration, and optimism.

The fourth chakra, Anahata, is located in our chest and heart area, and is represented by the color green. This chakra relates to love and compassion and our relationships with both others and ourselves. Green is the color of love, growth, transformation, abundance, hope, and compassion.

The fifth Chakra, Vishuddha, is located in the throat, and is represented by the color Blue. This chakra relates to all aspects of communication such as listening and speaking. Blue is the color of tranquility, peace, serenity, and stillness.

The sixth chakra, Ajna, is located in the center of our foreheads, or at our third eye, and is represented by the color Indigo. This chakra relates to our inner wisdom, intuition, and our connection to the spiritual world. Indigo is the color of deep change, balance, coordination, and clairvoyance.

The seventh Chakra, Sahasrara, is located at the crown of the head and is represented by the color purple. This chakra relates to our ultimate cosmic consciousness. Purple is the color of connection, cleansing, reconciliation, mysticism, and imagination.
