Calling all green thumbs and garden lovers! Garden Collage, a NYC based startup that launched in early April, features gardens from around the world, tips and DIY projects. They cover gardens in a fresh new way, destigmatizing the idea that gardens are just for grandmas. I seriously got sucked into their website and spent hours learning about rad stuff like edible flowers and weeds (what?!), moss graffiti, and the folkloric science surrounding spring’s most popular trees… pretty cool stuff!
In honor of Garden Collage’s launch, I’ve come up with an easy-peasy DIY vegan beauty recipe that uses farm fresh ingredients: lemons & tomatoes.
Acne-Fighting Lemon Tomato Mask
Lemons are chock full of AHA’s and BHA’s which remove dead skin cells, fight acne, minimize pores, and brighten skin.
Tomatoes are naturally have cooling and astringent properties. They’re also rich in antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin A. Their acidity helps tame excessive oil production, too.
Oatmeal is great for soothing temperamental skin and works wonders for those with eczema and acne.
- 1 ripe organic tomato
- 1 tsp. organic lemon juice
- 1 tsp. oatmeal
Mash your tomato (sans the skin) in a bowl. Add the lemon juice and oatmeal and mix everything in a blender. Apply to clean face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse and follow with your favorite vegan toner and moisturizer. BAM! Beautiful, clear skin, here we come! xo
