Your Guide to Vegan Shampoo

vegan shampoo guide

Let’s talk hair. We all have mad love for our beloved follicles, so why not treat them with all the TLC they deserve? Most conventional shampoos are chock full of nasty, cringe-worthy, toxic chemicals that can wreak havok on your hair (to say the least). So many of them have been tested on animals, too. Double womp. Even when you do find a cruelty-free shampoo, it’s not uncommon to find sneaky animal-derived ingredients in there like honey and silk proteins. What’s a gal to do?

Thankfully, there are a TON of vegan and cruelty-free shampoos to choose from, most of which are all-natural and organic. *angels singing*

Hi Sunny! This is a fantastic resource! I do love the DIY shampoo that I made from the book you co-authored. I like to be able to have other shampoos to recommend or try as well as my husband and I have different hair needs 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to share this information! I can’t wait to try your dry shampoo recipe as well. Oh, do you have any tips for an “after hair cut” shampoo or oil or something for my husband that would assist with ingrown hairs on the head? Thank you!

I have psoriasis on my scalp, which causes a lot of itchiness. I would love to learn about a shampoo that would help my condition, either commercial or
DIY. I am very careful to buy products not tested on animals. I would appreciate any suggestions from you. I am just starting a vegetarian diet, which will hopefully help. Thank you.

Hi, Sunny! I just wanted to let you know I’ve been SO thankful for your website! I’ve been a vegetarian for five years, and I’m taking steps to become vegan thanks to your guidance! I’m now using all vegan and cruelty-free makeup, skincare, and hair care products, but I had a question regarding DermOrganic. It was listed on one of your past vegan and cruelty-free guides for hair care, but I noticed it was absent from this current list. Are there any new issues with this product?

Thank you from “Sunny” Florida! 😉

    • Sunny says:

Omg, thank you so much for the sweet comment, Kris! And kudos for switching over your beauty products to all-vegan! 😀 DermOrganic is still vegan and cruelty-free. That was just a slight oversight. Will update asap. Thanks again for your readership and support! xo

This is an excellent guide! I have been trying to get into vegan haircare and this was the perfect way to get me started. It’s better for your hair, the environment, and animals! Thank you for sharing!

Do you have a good recommendation for a dry shampoo?! Tried the Lush powder, but not a huge fan.
