Your Guide to Vegan Mascaras

vegan mascara list

On most days, I’m not one to make a huge fuss with my makeup. I’ve got my hands full with two kiddos, but you’ll [almost] never catch me without some tinted lip balm and mascara action… okay, and maybe some under eye concealer and a quick dusting of mineral foundation. 😉

But seriously, mascara is probably the most essential beautifier. Having said that, finding awesome vegan mascaras can be a bit of a challenge because most mascaras on the market contain beeswax. Beeswax (aka bee barf) is used to help coat, lengthen, and stiffen the lashes… thankfully, there are killer substitute ingredients like synthetic beeswax and caranuba wax that pull off the same effect.

To help take the guesswork out of ingredient label reading, I’ve put together a list of 100% vegan mascaras. I’ll try to update this list as new ones come along. PLease comment below if there are any I’ve left out. xo

Milani may be vegan, but it has parabens in it! I wouldn’t be promoting it.

  2. Shushplease says:

Sorry that was meant to be a reply to Natalie

  3. Shushplease says:

As so many other sites as I do, also think YOUNIQUE isn’t a legit vegan and cruelty free brand. I had to comment here to tell everyone otherwise. I sent an email to younique to politely ask all relevant questions and they didn’t bother to reply. So I think you need to take them off your safe list!

  4. Megan says:

What about Red Apple Lipstick’s The Lash Project? It was recently featured by Petit Vour.

  5. Nicole cummins says:

I thought the wet n wild volume plus mascara was vegan but I may be wrong.

  6. Natalie says:

Hi, Younique’s 3D fibre mascara is not only paraben free, VEGAN & CRUELTY FREE, but it also does what it says on the tin!
I’ve decided to promote it after buying some myself and loving it – the fact that it is vegan and cruelty free is a no-brainer for me.

Younique is not in this list of vegan brands, maybe because it is fairly new – however it is fab and should be up there with the best in my opinion!

  7. Sara Katz says:

Lush also do one that’s lovely ^_^ it’s a very natural look! More like a lash conditioner/mascara in one. Love it!

  8. Patty says:

When I hear Vegan mascara, I assume that the brushes in the mascara are vegan, as well. Is this always the case when you list a product as vegan?

  9. Jennifer says:

Thanks for the list. I use Herbanluxe mascara. And I’m pretty sure you had mentioned Manic Panic as being vegan in a previous post on mascara.

  10. Beth says:

I LOVELOVELOVE Lily Lolo! Absolutely fantastic mascara!

I like the elf and Pacifica ones. And Wet & Wild, actually! I got the Suncoat one in a beauty box and was not impressed. Glam Naturals was a little too wet for me – couldn’t build on it as much. I just got the Lily Lolo so I’m excited to try it.

  12. Magdalena says:

This is so incredibly helpful! Thanks so much!

  13. Annie says:

Love the list – thank you so much! Truly Natural by Honeybee Gardens is also Certified-Vegan. I just bought one from The Choosy Chick and will start using in March. I like Suncoat, BWC and e.l.f – e.l.f. probably being my favorite – and, at $2, the most affordable!

  14. Sal says:

Ooh I just wrote a post on this recently as well.

My two faves are Eyeko’s Skinny Brush and Barry M’s Lash Vegas Fibres. I really love that lilylolo one you’ve got in your picture though too. In fact I’m pretty sure I bought it to try after seeing it on your FB page! 🙂

  15. Cassie says:

I use Natio mascara! They’re an Australian cruelty free brand with a lot of vegan products, and very easy to find here in oz 🙂
