Best Cruelty-Free Razors: Dollar Shave Club

Dollar Shave Club cruelty-free

UPDATE: Dollar Shave Club was acquired by Unilever (← not cruelty-free) in July 2016. *flick a tear*

All right, ladies and dudes, listen up! After lots and lots and LOTS of trying an experimenting with vegan and cruelty-free razors, I have finally settled on an all-time fave, and it’s a no-brainer. The Dollar Shave Club, known for their LOL viral YouTube videos and insanely good deals, seriously have The. Best. Razors. Ever.

My hubs recently started subscribing to this monthly service after discovering they were vegan and cruelty-free, and he told me they’re comparable to the most expensive, top-of-line razors he was used to buying in the past. I, of course, had to try these out for myself, because kickass cruelty-free lady razors are a challenge to find. Sure enough, turns out they are HELLA bomb… and crazy cheap, too (but not cheap quality). I got The 4X model which is ergonomic, has 4 blades with a lubricating strip, and is actually quite stylish. For $6/month I get 4 cartridges, which includes free shipping – HOLLA!

Other products they offer as add-ons include:

Dollar Shave Club Cruelty-Free

Shave Butter – This is my hubby’s FAVE shaving cream. It’s non-irritating, helps prevent ingrown hairs, and fights razor bumps.

Post Shave – It’s soothing and hydrating, anti-aging, and safe for sensitive skin.

One Wipe Charlies – These are flushable & biodegradable booty wipes for dudes (my hubs says these have a nice, subtle tingly factor). Ha, realizing I should have had him write this entire review! 😉

Pretty sweet, right? I highly, HIGHLY recommend Dollar Shave Club for their quality, affordability, and sheer corporate quirk fatcor. 🙂 Peep their funny commercial below if you haven’t already – it’s seriously genius.

What’s your favorite vegan and cruelty-free razor?

It was just announced that DSC was purchased by Unilever…

  2. Denis says:

Their lubricating strips are not tested on animals?

What’s up Sunny? I’m in the middle of e-mailing Dollar Shave club right now on this topic. I received the info below from customer service.

The potential issue I see is allantoin. Allantoin often comes from cow pee, and I’m not fond of the idea of smearing cow pee product on my face.

I’ve asked a follow up question to find out if DSC’s allantoin is animal-derived. I’ll post what I find.

    Here are the ingredients for all three;

The Humble Twin; chamomile, olive oil, allantoin
The 4X; chamomile, olive oil, allantoin
The Executive; Vitamin E, aloe, lavender oil

It looks like the allantoin is vegan after all! From DSC customer support:

Happy to see! I checked, and it looks like I our allantoin is extracted from the comfrey plant. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do. I’m only an email away!

Dollar Shave Club just makes me happy inside. Their marketing is hilarious, their prices are reasonable – learning that they’re vegan is icing on the company cake. Props to them! That shave butter looks amazing – I’d use it on my legs in an instant.

Are all of their razors vegan? I’ve been unable to get a clear answer from Dollar Shave Club in the past.
