sugar detox

It’s no secret that I’m a sugarholic (I have to have something sweet after shoveling savory ish in mah face—and it’s gotten out of control)! If you peep my Instagram feed, it’s flooded with the hashtag #sugarfiend. I’ve decided that I’m going to detox from sugar for at least 21 days with the goal of ridding all processed sugars from my diet for good! Tiffany from is taking the challenge with me, and I invite you to join us as we kick sugar’s sweet (and Satanic) ass!

The Deets:

Why: Did you know studies have shown sugar to be more addictive that cocaine?! Sugar also feeds cancer cells, promotes jiggly belly rolls, increases yeasty growth downstairs (you do the math!), and CAUSES WRINKLES (Oh hellllls NO!!)

Start date: July 29 (Feel free to binge on vegan cinnamon rolls and Dandies the night before as a last hurrah.)

Not allowed: Agave (yep, agave!), sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, fructose, succanat, turbinado sugar, malt, corn sweeteners, brown rice syrup, artificial sweeteners (e.g. Splenda), etc.

Acceptable sources of sweetness: Stevia, fruit, raw coconut nectar, pure maple syrup, xylitol, erythritol

For more info: Check out Kimberly Snyder’s The Beauty Detox Foods (with recipes, y’all!) – I read this book and got mega inspired to change the way I eat!

I’ll be keepin’ y’all updated on my progress and hopefully posting recipes for sweet, non-sugary treats. Stay tuned, and definitely feel free to join the sugar-free par-tay! Also, if you have any tips, recipes, book recommendations, etc., that you’d like to share with me, please do! 🙂

It may be basic. But the ultimate detox is just water and more water! cant last an hour or two without a sip of it!

  2. Gina says:

I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. Salt is my particular poison, however, I know there’s sugar lurking in the packaged foods I eat. I’m in!

I think it’s great you’re doing this! I’ve been reading more and more about how cancer cells feed off sugar. Suddenly those cookies don’t seem worth it!

Two other books that may be useful resources for you are The Virgin Diet by JJ Virgin and Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr. They both have a 21-day detox plan that includes eliminating sugar, amongst other things (meat, dairy, gluten, etc.) I have a friend currently doing the Virgin Diet detox, and she and her kids (whom are teenagers) have been loving frozen grapes when they want something sweet.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

🙂 dunno, but i think i fit in as well :)vegan for almost two years, have been flirting with raw vegan diet for a month or so (but im not overdoing it, im a vegan caus of animals, and “raw” seems to me a bit more like a fad diet)…but im eating as much raw fruits and vegetables as i can and as i like, so theres enough sweetness for me 🙂 of course, i eat sth cooked as well, basically everyday, so its not that hard :)oh, and when i need to sweeten my oatmeal or porridge, i use xylitol, too, or dry fruits, or blackstrap molasses (does that count?)… aaaand a lot of tea and those indian “coffeees” without caffeine, im always buying some when travelling so i have loads of them :)…the only time when im sinning is when my grandma prepares some cake for me – she doesnt even believe me that vegans exist, but she knows what they dont eat lol…so i dont want to scare her more adding sugar on a no-no list 🙂

I’ve been bingeing on sugar the last month but I don’t think I can make it without my sweet treats.

  6. Tiffany says:

Ugh. What the hell have I gotten myself into? Hold on. Let me dice these Red Vines for my salad and THEN I’ll look into this book. P.S. Hold me. I’m scared.

    • Sunny says:

Lol, you and me both!! We’re gonna be cranky, nasty betches without our beloved sweet, sugary drug. Is it horrible that I’m already thinking of ways to cheat the system? 🙂
