The Baking Soda Gender Test (For Moms-To-Be)

Unless you’re planning on spending mad cheddah to get an early 3-D sono (to see a tinky-winky or lack-there-of) before your 5-month gender sono, try this super cheap and easy baking soda test! Unlike a bunch of cheesy “sex predictor” methods I’ve read about online, this one is actually somewhat science-based (I’ll explain in a bit). It also has a fairly high accuracy rate (during a recent online survey, 22 out of 31 gender predictions checked out via ultrasound!), and it totes worked for me!! πŸ˜€

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Put a little bit of baking soda in a disposable cup.
  2. Pee on it first thing in the morning (no need to go overboardβ€”a little urine will do).

If it fizzes… baby’s a BOY!

If it doesn’t… baby’s a GIRL!

How it works:Β This test gauges your pH levels. If the baking soda fizzes, it means your urine is acidic, which is common when carrying a boy!

Have you tried the baking soda gender test? Was it accurate? Are you tempted to try it for the first time? Share your thoughts! xx

  2. Evelyn says:

Question, so, I am 7 weeks pregnant and I did the urine/baking soda test and it fizzed. So does that mean I am carrying a boy? What actually happens to non-pregnant urine when combined with baking soda?

So I am 16 weeks and 5 days.
I did this test this morning. And no fizzle.

I also had my friend do it who knows she is having a girl.
    She also had no fizzle.

It worked for her. Hopefully it worked for me too!!!

I think it’s a little problematic to try to determine the gender of a child before they are even born (let alone assign them a gender once they are born) because gender identity is not necessarily physical and does not always correlate with the sex of the person (based on anatomy). So maybe we can try to manage our gender expectations for fetuses and children (and everyone).

    • sherry says:

Seriously? They are a specific gender when they are born, even if later in life they “decide” to have work done to change it. They are still the gender that God made them.
