The Ultimate DIY Avocado Face Mask

February 23, 2013By 15 Comments

I call this the ultimate avocado face mask because it smooths and moisturizes, fights wrinkles, combats acne, and exfoliates… Oh yeah, and it smells (and probably tastes) good, too! πŸ™‚

Let’s get right to it!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 ripe organic avocado (contains vitamins A, D, and E and has moisturizing and healing properties)
  • 1 ripe organic banana (contains vitamins A, B, and Eβ€”anti-aging kick-assers)
  • 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil (abundant in antioxidants, moisturizing goodness, and it won’t clog pores)
  • 1 teaspoon of orange juice or lemon juice (contains lots of vitamin C and exfoliates, helps fight wrinkles, scars, and acne)

Combine all the ingredients (I like to use a food processor, but you can mash and mix everything by hand instead). Apply to clean, dry skin and leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off.

Enjoy your beautiful, soft, glowing skin, and be happy that you saved yo’self some $$ by DIYing it up! Btw, this mixture makes enough maskiness for 2 peeps (maybe even 3), so invite your homegirls over and make it a spa-sy fun evening.

Hugs! xx

I replaced the oil with coconut oil in mine because I didn’t have olive or jojoba oil but great and easy recipe… Being a vegan I already had all the ingredients handy

Do you think you could freeze what you don’t need and defrost when ready.

Hello there I was so excited to use this mask on my cousins and I. After about 3 minutes our skin was very itchy so we immediately washed it off. My skin right now is very red and blotchy. Do you know what may have caused this and if I did something wrong?

    • Niki says:

You might be allergic to one of the ingredients (probably the oil) or it may be that the lemon juice was irritating your skin, as can happen with very sensitive skin. The avocado is supposed to combat that with its moisturizing properties, as the lemon juice shrinks pores and bleaches blackheads. If you used the lemon juice, maybe try orange if you decide to do it again. Hope you’re okay!
