Urban Decay is STILL Cruelty-Free

Urban Decay is still cruelty-free—thank Godzilla—so I gotta show some  for a few of my fave vegan UD staples:

A quick note:

I know this isn’t news, but since Urban Decay was bought by L’Oréal, vegan peeps have been freaking the F out. For those of you who aren’t down to support UD, I totally respect y’all (’cause their new parent company totally sucks balls i.e. they test on animals), but just so we don’t get all judgey-judgey on the Sunbuns, let’s acknowledge that we all perhaps eat at omni restaurants on occasion, shop at Whole Foods or other “natural” stores that support cruelty by selling or serving meat, buy gas or take medicine or prescriptions (e.g. birth control) that have been tested on animals, etc…

I guess what I’m trying to say is that no one can be 100% perfect 100% of the time, but we try our best. Let’s show companies that are cruelty-free that we will continue to vote with our $ (i.e. supporting cruelty-free brands like UD) just like we always have, because actions like these will inspire parent companies like L’Oréal to one day go cruelty-free altogether!

That is my FAVOURITE mascara EVER! I also love their eyeliner. I completely agree with you, it IS like shopping at Whole Foods, a chain that sells meat and dairy.

At least UD clearly labels which products are vegan and they are very helpful about telling you which colours in their sets are vegan (and any other questions you may have). Apart from the primer potion mishap a few years back they’ve been a vegan-friendly company that I absolutely love.

I stick with Alima Pure (a mineral makeup company similar to Everyday Minerals but SO much nicer) fo’ muh face, though. I’m a bit snobby when it comes to my skin.

I’ll just stick to small online make up websites…. like boutiques on Etsy. It’s different with make up, or things that involve vanity, IMO. Supporting a company known for animal testing and a restaurant that serves meat is different IMO because the animal testing is for the purposes of BEAUTY and VANITY.. not worth it to me! I’ll try my best to avoid UD. I had no idea they were owned by Louis Vuitton back then!

I’m glad to see your viewpoint on this, since I greatly respect your opinion. I’ve previously had the mentality of “Don’t punish the child for the sins of its parent” but Urban Decay being sold to L’oreal made me pause for awhile and reconsider it. Also, as non-animal lovers like to point out, Urban Decay used to be owned by Louis Vuitton, who is well known for their use of fur and leather. I think I will go back to buying Urban Decay because I believe it does show other companies that not only is it possible to be cruelty free and awesome, but also profitable.

i agree with you, sunny! and UD lists vegan products, so i like to support companies that continue to create and label vegan items. too faced has expanded their vegan list as well…they have the information on the product page now:)

Yes, still cruelty free but…actually filled with some yucky chemicals. I was sad to find out vegan doesn’t really mean clean and good for your skin. I read No More Dirty Looks a few months ago and have switched to some awesome vegan AND clean makeup. Have you tried RMS beauty? Awesome stuff. just sayin :)

I get where you’re coming from but I stand firm…for me, NO Urban Decay anymore.

That is SUCH a good analogy: eating at an omnivore restaurant!
I try so hard to do everything “properly” but I have some Body Shop stuff that I’ve not been able to find an anywhere decent replacement for.

I’m going to give myself a break about it. :)

  • Agreed. Also, I’m so glad that they’re committed to remaining cruelty-free, despite their crappy parent company, because I adore the new Naked foundation and that mascara is the best vegan one I’ve tried so far.
