How to Curl Your Hair Without Heat

October 1, 2010By 29 Comments

Curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers are so bad for your hair! I wanted to show you guys how to make your hair curly using only your fingers and some bobby pins—it’s so easy and fun! As a bonus, I wanted to show you some of the cruelty-free beauty products I use on a daily basis… watch me go from drab and makeupless to curlicue cutie. ;)

What should I make my next video about?

I wish you would have shown how to do it with wet hair. My hair just keeps sliding off my finger when I try to roll it up.

  2. irene says:

Okay well will this work on hair that’s like up to your shoulders or will it look too short

  3. JacquelineS says:

I have to confess that I’m not a big fan of blog posts with videos, but I just can’t resist to watch yours! You’re sooo cute! :)
I’m from Brazil, heard about your blog recently and I’m loving it!

I was super psyched to try this on my hair to speed up my beauty routine in the a.m. However, when I took the bobby pins out and used a wide-toothed comb to try and tame the curls it turned into a bad 80′s perm.
So I think I missed something, LOL. How did you tame the curls once the pins are out?

  7. Robyn says:

Awww! You are adorable..and vegan to boot! The video was great! Can’t wait to try that curly ‘do! **scurries off to find bobby pins**

    xoxo

    Hi Sunny,

Thank you for the cruelty-free makeup list you sent to Carrie (who sent it to me), it’s really helpful.

Super adorable video w/great tips! I agree with the other commenters that you look perfectly fine pre-makeup. I also love how your kitty nonchalantly manages to stay in frame the whole time :D

    • Sunny says:

Aw, thanks so much! I’m glad I could help!
Also, thank you for all the kind words. :)

My kitties make cameos (cameows)in all my vids; they are pretty much the reason people watch these things. ;)

  11. Evie says:

Loved the video! The part about opening your mouth when you put on eyeliner cracked me up.

  12. I loved your technique, I will definitely give it a try. By the way, your cat is gorgeous :)

  13. Becky says:

Gurl, I am so gonna use them techniques! Beautiful! I’ve never used skin primer – I’m excited!

  14. Cat says:

Your hair and skin are awesome, of course, but I wanna know what shade of nail polish you’re wearing!! It’s hot, so spill it!

  15. Vegyogini says:

I love this make-up tutorial! You look gorgeous without make-up, though. :)

  16. C says:

This is so helpful, thank you! Really awesome video. And you look pretty without make-up, your skin is so nice. :-)

  17. Christy says:

    Loved the video.

Are all of physicians formula products vegan? I didn’t know they had any. What about The Body Shop products? Are they all vegan?

Also did you put anything on your hair the night before when it was wet?

Keep it up with the blog! Its awesome!

    • Sunny says:

      Hey Christy,

Thank you for your feedback! :)

No, unfortunately not all of the products from The Body Shop and Physicians Formula are vegan (but they are all cruelty-free). You still need to read the ingredients on the individual products. Also, Physicians Formula isn’t as pure as I’d like it to be… for instance, it contains [nasty] preservatives but the coverage is amazing, so I keep coming back to it.

The only product I used at night after washing my hair was a detangler (this one: http://www.veganbeautyreview.com/2009/12/original-sprout-for-babies-and-up.html) and that was it. I’m totally obsessed with curling my hair now. :)
