I know this isn’t news, but most conventional sunscreens do more harm than good. Sun protection is great and all—but only if you’re not piling toxic, carcinogenic chemicals on your skin in the process. I’ve been fortunate to get my hands on some some pretty amazing vegan sunscreens over the years, and I’ve recently discovererd one of my new faves. It’s from the sustainable, organic, non-toxic skin care company, Marie Veronique Organics. The deets…
Kid Safe Screen SPF 25 ($19): I LOVE that it comes in a pump container (♪ p-pump it real good ♪). I’m not the biggest fan of using sunscreen from squeeze-tubes (too messy and arduous), so right off the bat I knew I was gonna be a fan of this stuff. I do want to note that it’s not a spray. I originally thought I was going to be able to spritz this on my face. My bad. It’s all gravy, though, because it goes on smoothly, it has a delicate scent, and it doesn’t leave any white residue. Best part: there are no harmful chemicals, nanoparticles, parabens, petroleum products, fillers, waxes or fragrances and it’s completely vegan!
Ingredients: Camellia sinensis (green and white tea), non-nano zinc oxide, capric/capryllic triglycerides (fractionated coconut oil), Helianthus annuus (sunflower oil), Persea americana (avocado oil), MVO butter, vegetable glycerin, potassium sorbate, xantham gum, allantoin, Polyaminopropyl biguanide (Cosmocil CQ), glycine soja lecithin, rosemary oleoresin, Cananga odorata (ylang ylang) essential oil, iron oxides
Btw, if you’re like, “But it’s almost fall, it’s getting cool, so I don’t need any sun protection this time of year.” Hate to break it to ya, but unless you aspire to look granny-ish well before your granny years, you’re gonna wanna slather some non-toxic SPF every chance you get. Keep in mind, the sun comes out every sing day (whether you see it or not). Sunscreen is one of the best ways to fight wrinkles—I can’t think of anyone who’s not down with that!
I’m always on the lookout for new vegan sunscreens. If you have any tips, please pass them along! Thank you y muchos gracias.

sounds nice, i can’t wait for the summer to try it.

As an FYI, KINeSYS Performance Sunscreen is a proud signer of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, Cruelty free & Vegan. We make the only sunscreen spray on the market that is Oil, Alcohol, PABA, Preservative & Paraben Free with topical anti-oxident, Vitamin E.
We use chemical blocks, but no oxybenzone/BP3 or retinyl palmitate. When the EWG first came out with their Sunscreen evaluation, KINeSYS was one of the top picks and Jane Houlihan, the VP of Research for the EWG, was on CBS morning show. The only product she mentioned by name was KINeSYS, you can see the video on our website.
In 2009, the EWG decided to changed to Zinc & Titanium as the safest ingredients, but there is so little known about nano-particles, which many of the Zinc & Ti creams are, that it will be years from now that we fully know the effect of these particles on the environment and the human body.
KINeSYS has been environmentally aware since inception in 1994 using recyclable bottles, sprayers and soy based inks, as well as it is produced using wind energy, making KINeSYS carbon neutral.
Thank you,

Sounds wonderful! I love that it’s a spray!
I alternate between Key’s Soap Solar RX and Goddess Garden Facial Sunscreen- they’re both very good but I will give this one a try as well!
Oooh, I love learning about new vegan sunscreens! Thank you – I will check these out!
I just ordered this on your recommendation! I’d never even heard of this branch before. I’m just wondering, does it leave your skin kind of dry? I’ve found that zinc oxide has that tendency…
I haven’t noticed it leaving my skin dry, but I might not be the best person to ask because I’m a lotion freak. I’m always drenching my skin with yummy-smelling moisturizers to avoid dry skin in general.
btw, lemme know how it works for you!
I love California Baby’s California Baby No Fragrance SPF 30 Sunblock. It’s vegan (yay!) and it’s free of PABA, chemicals and fragrance so it’s perfect for my uber sensitive skin. Incredibly thick, it protected my skin from the scorching sun in Jamaica in August.
Thanks for the tip. I’m gonna look them up right now – so exciting!
I’m definitely going to order some. It sounds wonderful!
