There aren’t many vegan restaurants in LA that stay open late (boo), but there are a few and they’re all pretty frickin’ awesome. One of my faves is Pure Luck - they’re open until midnight Monday-Saturday (they are closed on Sundays). If you have a hankerin’ for some tasty-ass noms around beddies time, you should check this place out. Although I’m not überly horny about everything on their menu, nor do I drink (they have a nice selection of vegan beers), I am a gigantor fan of Todd’s BBQ Sandwich. In fact, it’s the only thing I ever order from there anymore ’cause the BBQ-y jackfruit is ridiculously tasty! It has a soft, meaty texture and it’s slathered in BBQ sauce – YUMZ! I usually order this with rosemary fries (they have sweet potato fries, too) and garlic aioli sauce to dip them in. *drool, drool, slobber, slobber*

I want to try to make this at home; it seems simple enough. Does anyone know how to cook jackfruit? Any jackfruit recipes in general are welcome.

just went there tonight for dinner – that jackfruit was INSANE!!!
ah I didn’t know it was open until midnight! thanks!
P.S. You will want to break up the jackfruit into smaller pieces with a fork after you drain it.
Jackfruit comes in a can and you can find it at the Asian stores around LA. Make sure you buy the one in brine or water and not the one in syrup because you’re making a savory dish. Drain it, marinate it in your BBQ sauce, and cook it over a medium flame until warmed through. Add more BBQ sauce as needed. I’ve also done this successfully with Indian sauces.
Thank you, Vegyogini! You make it sound so easy! I can’t wait to to try it!
