FYI:
Complete Awesomeness: Tofu Scramble Hash ($13) with organic tofu, scrambled with asparagus, mushrooms, spinach, miso, nutritional yeast and veggie tempeh bacon (we added vegan cheddar cheese). Sides we chose: Olive bread toast and breakfast potatoes.
This is the BEST breakfast in town and it’s served all day. This reminds me of NYC’s amazing breakfast spots.

Should be Awesome but Not: Red Velvet Cupcake ($4)
I’m super easy to please in the sugar department. If it’s sweet, I usually love it no matter what. Mani’s is the exception; their desserts need some serious love. This cupcake was sooooooooooo dry and the icing was hard and stale and when it finally broke down in mouth, it tasted like pure, salty-ish cream cheese (but clumpier). I’ve had very bad luck with desserts at Mani’s. They all look beautiful but I’ve yet to try one that’s actually good. I still order a different dessert every time I go, hoping there’s at least one gem in their lovely bakery display case.

I haven’t stopped in here yet, must drop by soon. So far I’ve bought my delicious vegan cupcakes in Los Angeles from Meet Market and a place on Magnolia in Burbank.
Ok, so I went to Mani’s this wkend & took your recommendation – ordered the tofu scramble hash. Mine came with regular veggie bacon (instead of veggie tempeh bacon), & I also added the vegan cheddar cheese. It was the BEST BREAKFAST I’VE EVER HAD!!! You know it’s good when you can’t even tell that it’s vegan cheese.
Now I have a recommendation for you. You said you haven’t been able to find a dessert you like there. Well I told the waitress that I heard about their place from your blog. She knew we had traveled from Sacramento & Denver respectively, so she gave us some freebies of the chocolate dipped peanut butter bites, & they were yummy! Had a bit of carob taste to them. Oh, and they’re vegan too.
Anyhow, thanks again for posting this review. Excellent food & excellent service. Wish we had places like this in Sac.
Hey Katherine, thank you so much for the feedback! I’m so happy you loved their tofu scramble hash! If you get a chance, also check out Shojin and Madeleine Bistro while you’re in town (they’re both 100% vegan)! Theses restaurants are two of LA’s best!
Here’s a link to my Shojin review:

I am so excited about this recommendation! This year I have embarked on a journey to live more consciously. Somehow my research has led me to your blog (which I am loving, btw). Anyhow, do you ever feel like when you’re on the right path, things seem to just fall into place so easily? Kizmit, maybe? Anyhow, I’ll actually be in LA this wkend, and saw this review just in time. I’ve told my friend to incorporate Mani’s into our itinerary. I will definitely be ordering the tofu scramble. Looks scrumptious!
Thanks!
Have to agree with you about Mani’s – the food’s awesome but the desserts…not so much. Went there yesterday and had their wonderful TBLT sandwich and then a disappointing carrot-raisin cupcake for dessert. Thanks for your review.
How cute are you?!
Aww, thank you.
Yeah, I’ve had mixed results with the freshness of the cupcakes at Mani’s.
I’ve had some that just tasted like they’d been refrigerated for days, and some that were soft, moist and almost perfect.
we were JUST at mani’s recently, and i wish i would have ordered this. i seriously love this place!
i forgot how good this breakfast was.
more restaurant reviews, please.
Have you had any luck with their desserts or is it just me?
Their breakfast is the BESTESTEST tho’.
Mmmmm….=)
It was a mistake to watch this at 6AM just when I’m about to head out to work. Now I WANT some.
