Yes to Carrots, yes to smooth skin

October 6, 2009By 0 Comments

I happen to be a big fan of carrots. I love carrot juice, I love carrots on my salad and I love to dunk baby carrots in hummus – YUM! I happen to also like carrots on my face and all over my body. What am I talkin’ about? There’s a pretty accessible and affordable line of skin care that’s getting a lot of media attention called Yes to Carrots. Their products can be found at stores like Target, Walgreens and amazon.com  Their line of skin care is paraben free and is packed full of organic fruits and veggies. Although Yes to Carrots uses lots of organic ingredients, I do have to point out that they use Imidazolidinyl Urea (a preservative, in this case, not animal derived) and “fragrance.” Believe me, it could be way worse but I wish they would find alternatives.  In the spectrum of vegan skin care, there are the über basic, pure, beauty lines, the moderate “green” kind and the straight up vegan but toxic kind.  I’d have to say Yes to Carrots falls somewhere in the middle (closer to the basic, purer side).  Their products are awesome but they could totally kick it up a notch and be even greener and safer by maybe sacrificing a little bit of shelf life. I’m hoping this post along with its comments and feedback will help Yes to Carrots and other companies see the demand for 100% preservative free skin care. The reason I’m reviewing Y to C is because they are on the right path and their products are cruelty-free. Aside from a couple ingredients, they are mostly organic and their products work effectively.

Products that I’ve been using:

Deliciously Rich Body Butter (~$13)

If you’re suffering from dry skin, you need to start rockin’ some seriously hydrating lotion. This beta carotene rich formula is blended with organic carrot juice, organic pumpkin, organic sweet potato, shea butter and Dead Sea mud. This body butter absorbs quickly and leaves your skin feeling soft. I always use body butter on my legs after a bath and I’ve been using this particular body butter for about a week now and it seems to be doing the trick.

Exfoliating and Soothing Mud Mask (~$15)

This vitamin-rich mask with avocado, carrot and Dead Sea mud works well on dry to sensitive skin. It’s super simple to use and you only need to leave it on your face for 5 minutes. If you put this on and then floss and brush your teeth, it’ll be dry by the time you’re done scrubbing your toothsies. I’m a huge fan of mud masks. I’ve yet to try a mask I didn’t like and this is no exception.

No! We never have and never will test on animals. Instead, we have an eager group of consumers willing to test our latest concoctions to make sure our  products are safe and effective for you.
